Keeping Things Hot! MWM Gas Engines Keep Homes Warm in Tashkent, Uzbekistan
Schwaz, April 11, 2024
The growing demand for energy in Uzbekistan has accelerated such a dynamic development of distributed power generation. As the official MWM distributor for Turkey and MWM solutions provider for Uzbekistan, İltekno has already implemented numerous cogeneration and trigeneration projects with MWM gas engines. With the installation of two MWM TCG 3020 V20 gas engines for the energy company JSC Thermal Power Plants, İltekno has successfully completed another combined heat and power project in Uzbekistan. The MWM gas engines generate energy for the heat and power supply of the Chilanzar district in the combined heat and power (CHP) plant.
Through strategic collaborations and a deep understanding of local dynamics, İltekno has successfully implemented cutting-edge cogeneration projects powered by MWM technology, reshaping the energy landscape in the region. In 2023, İltekno signed a contract with JSC Thermal Power Plants (TPP), which is responsible for generating and supplying power to businesses and the population of Uzbekistan. TPP has seven thermal power plants, three thermal power cogeneration plant centers, three organizations providing services to enterprises of the industry, and Tashkent Heat Center LLC.
In 2022, the enterprises of JSC Thermal Power Plants produced 55.5 billion kWh of electricity and 5.3 million Gcal of heat energy. In 2023, the company’s enterprises planned on generating 54.3 billion kWh of power and 5.1 million Gcal of thermal energy. To achieve this plan, TPP signed a contract with İltekno for the installation of cogeneration power plants in six districts of city of Tashkent, namely Chilanzar, Mirzo Ulugbek, Yakkasaray, Sergeli, Olmazor, Yashnobod, Uchtepa and Yangihayot.
The first project was Chilanzar project, which started in March of 2023 and was successfully completed in early November of the same year. İltekno’s project comprised the supply, installation, and commissioning of two MWM 3020 V20 natural gas engine generator sets with an electrical output of 2.3 MW and two natural gas boilers with an output of 12.5 MW along with the accessories required for running the system as a cogeneration plant. Heat is recovered both from the engine jacket water and from the exhaust system with a heat exchanger with a total capacity of 4.5 MW as well as 12.5 MW peak boilers with a total mechanical capacity of 24.2 Gcal, which provide hot water to 3,105 apartments in 50 multistory blocks, two schools, three kindergartens, and two hospitals for heating and usage purposes. The system is designed in such a way that domestic hot water and heating water demand during spring and autumn is entirely generated by the installed MWM gas engines, while the peak boilers are operating additionally during wintertime.
During the project rollout, İltekno faced a number of challenges, all of which were successfully resolved during the execution stage. Thus, İltekno was able to complete the plant in time before the start of the winter season in Tashkent.
İltekno was also proud to welcome His Excellency Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, at the commissioning of the Chilanzar cogeneration power plant on October 14, 2023, an event that garnered a lot of media attention.
With the momentum gained from this achievement, İltekno is excited to explore new opportunities and expand its footprint in Uzbekistan and other markets around the world.
