MWM gas engines in cogeneration plant

Municipal utility Stadtwerke Zeitz relies on efficient and high-performance MWM technology in its modernized CHP plant (combined heat and power or cogeneration plant). Two particularly efficient MWM gas engines were installed in the CHP plant. The solution supplies nearly 4,000 households with waste heat.
As part of the modernization of its cogeneration plant, Stadtwerke Zeitz installed both an 8- and a 16-cylinder gas engine (TCG 2016 und TCG 2020) featuring a very high degree of efficiency. The two units produce approximately 2,000 kilowatt (kW) of power and supply almost 4,000 households in the eastern German city of Zeitz with heat. Both MWM gas engines complement each other perfectly: while the smaller MWM gas engine with about 400 kW provides basic supply during the summer months, the larger unit generating 1,500 kW ensures reliable heating of all households in Zeitz East during the winter months.

With regard to the investment of almost EUR 1.5 million, Mario Pöschmann, technical manager of Stadtwerke Zeitz emphasized on the plant’s high economic utility value. “The modernization of the CHP plant was an important step for us this year,” Pöschmann told daily Mitteldeutsche Zeitung. “After more than 15 years of operation, the old engines were worn out and would have required extensive repair. With the new installation, we have now ensured security of supply for the district heating in Zeitz East in a more environmentally friendly and efficient way,” added Pöschmann.
