Greece’s Largest Producer of Tomatoes Wonderplant S.A Receives New Cogeneration Plant with Eight MWM Gas Engines
Mannheim, May 10, 2023
The Greek vegetable grower Wonderplant S.A produces up to 15,000 tons of tomatoes annually. For the “Wonderplant 2” project and the associated expansion of the greenhouse area, MWM Benelux B.V. has installed another cogeneration plant in 2021, powered by eight MWM TCG 2020 V12 gas engines.
Tomato Producer Again Relies on MWM Gas Engines for Expansion
In 2011, the first greenhouse of vegetable grower Wonderplant S.A, with an area of 105,000 square meters, was built. In 2013, the first cogeneration plant with four MWM TCG 2020 V20 gas engines with a total power of 8 MWel was installed by MWM Benelux B.V. to manage the greenhouse. Since then, the MWM gas engines have been in continuous operation and have already completed over 70,000 operating hours. In 2018, the greenhouse area was expanded by another 55,000 square meters.
In order to be able to handle the increased demand for heat and electricity after the expansion of the greenhouse area, MWM Benelux B.V. installed a new cogeneration plant including flue gas cleaning for Wonderplant in 2021. The CHP plant is powered by eight MWM TCG 2020 V12 gas engines with a total output of 9.6 MWel and 10.4 MWth. The total plant has a capacity of 17.9 MWel. Thanks to the new CHP system with the MWM gas engines, the greenhouses can be optimally heated.
Service and Maintenance by A.EI.M.A S.A.
The CHP plant of “Wonderplant 2” has an annual electrical capacity of 76,800,000 kW and an annual heat production of 83,200,000 kW. After the plant’s commissioning in 2021, Greek MWM distributor A.EI.M.A S.A. has taken over the maintenance and service work for Wonderplant.
