Caterpillar Energy Solutions Supports Technology Initiative of Allianz Wasserstoffmotor e.V. with Its MWM Brand

Since April 2022, Caterpillar Energy Solutions has been a member of Allianz Wasserstoffmotor e.V. (Hydrogen Engine Alliance) with its MWM brand. The alliance considers itself an ambassador, mediator, and supporter of the technology initiative promoting the hydrogen engine in order to advance climate-neutral mobility and the production of green power.

Green Energy Production with Hydrogen-Fueled Gas Engines

Allianz Wasserstoffmotor e.V. promotes a technology-open approach to vehicle drives in order to support the EU targets for the reduction of carbon emissions (“Fit for 55”). The initiative focuses on the hydrogen engine as a key pillar of climate-neutral mobility. As an official member of the association, Caterpillar Energy Solutions contributes to the expansion of the network and to an innovative and competent exchange on customer requirements in the field of green power generation with hydrogen.

MWM has extensive experience in the use of gas engines with hydrogen admixture. Today, MWM gas engines can already be operated with a hydrogen admixture of up to 10 percent. With a technical modification to ensure optimum performance, safety, and efficiency of the energy generation, higher hydrogen admixtures of up to 25 vol% are also possible with MWM gas engines. Using various MWM products and technologies, MWM has already implemented innovative projects with a hydrogen content of up to 60 percent.

Technological Openness to Climate-Neutral Drives

Founded in 2021, Allianz Wasserstoffmotor e.V. wants to serve as an ambassador for hydrogen technology and as a trailblazer for the development of the technology in order to demonstrate its economic feasibility. In addition, the alliance acts as a mediator between the participating companies, science, politics, and society, with the aim of preparing and accompanying the market launch and spread of hydrogen engines.
