Low-Emission MWM Diesel Engines, Specialized for Underground Use

In the 1980s, there was a high demand for low-emission engines for equipment used underground and indoors. In 1983, MWM thus developed diesel engines based on the principle of the diesel prechamber combustion method by the engineer Prosper L’Orange in order to meet this demand. The technology designed by L’Orange was patented in 1919 and subsequently further developed by MWM.

In the early 1980s, an engine lineup with an output range from 117 to 250 hp was introduced to the market. Thanks to the low fuel buildup on the combustion chamber walls, the carbon emissions of the MWM diesel engines were very low, making them ideal for use underground or in enclosed spaces. In the following years, the units were very successful in the market.
