Knorr-Bremse Buys MWM Share Package
MWM Becomes Subsidiary of Südbremse, Munich
In 1926, Berlin-based Knorr-Bremse AG acquired the MWM share package. This was due to a patent dispute between Munich-based „Süddeutsche Bremsen AG“ (SB), which belonged to Knorr-Bremse AG, and Mannheim-based MWM. In 1926, MWM became a subsidiary of „Süddeutsche Bremsen AG“ (SB). From then on, diesel engines were jointly developed and sold. This collaboration was contractually regulated and continued until 1986. The global sales of this joint venture’s products were handled by Motoren-Werke Mannheim AG, since MWM had a very extensive sales network thanks to its history as part of Benz & Cie.
